One of the main reasons I travel is getting to know new cultures. I find it fascinating how every border crossing means you will encounter new traditions, different food, different characters and customs. I love learning about a country I’m in, talking to locals and trying their cuisine. When I found out about Couchsurfing.com six years ago, I was thrilled. It has since been a significant part of my travels and everyday life.
Couchsurfing is a travelling and social networking community from all over the world, of all ages, all nationalities and all cultures. It connects like-minded people and creates bonds and friendships as well as lets us learn firsthand about the world we live in.
Being a member of Couchsurfing community allows you to find other members who will host you at their place(free of charge) while you travel. Not to overstay your welcome you want to average your visit to around 3 days but it all depends on the circumstances and preferences. It’s not just about having a free place to stay though- it’s about getting to know your new friends, exchanging experiences, sharing extraordinary moments in your life with people who are on the same wavelength and showing you their culture.
Being a member of the Couchsurfing community means you will never ever feel alone regardless which country you’re in. You can move to the other end of the world and you know there are people literally waiting to meet you. What’s more, you can connect with people who are in exactly same position as you are right now: new in the city starting another chapter in your life. Isn’t it absolutely brilliant!
You have an opportunity to meet locals who will be more than happy to show you their city and make you feel home even if it’s a thousand miles away from your family and friends. Sounds too good to be true? Then answer this question: would you help a person who has just moved to your city by showing them around, meeting up for a coffee and giving advice on the best places to see and things to do?
The majority of us will answer ‘yes’ which means there are so many good genuine people out there who want to reach out to others. It’s pretty amazing to feel helpful and if you want to feel helpful then the Couchsurfing community is the perfect group to be a part of:-)
Couchsurfing is not just for travellers. If you are becoming bored with your daily routine, you can add something new to it by joining the travellers’ community and attending various events which are carried out in most cities. Whichever city you search, you will find something going on there or you can create an event yourself and invite others to join. You can also register as a host and invite travelers to stay with you and show them the best your city has to offer.
I have met plenty of exceptional people thanks to Couchsurfing with some I’ve become good friends with and meeting every and each of them was an opportunity to learn something new and a great experience that no one can ever take away from me. Couchsurfing.com is not just a website, it’s a lifestyle!
